Your Mind Set- Part 2
Mark 8: 14-21
14 The disciples had forgotten to bring bread, except for one loaf they had with them in the boat. 15 “Be careful,” Jesus warned them. “Watch out for the yeast of the Pharisees and that of Herod.”
16 They discussed this with one another and said, “It is because we have no bread.”
17 Aware of their discussion, Jesus asked them: “Why are you talking about having no bread? Do you still not see or understand? Are your hearts hardened? 18 Do you have eyes but fail to see, and ears but fail to hear? And don’t you remember? 19 When I broke the five loaves for the five thousand, how many basketfuls of pieces did you pick up?”
“Twelve,” they replied.
20 “And when I broke the seven loaves for the four thousand, how many basketfuls of pieces did you pick up?”
They answered, “Seven.”
21 He said to them, “Do you still not understand?”
Jesus frustration with the disciples on this topic was not the mere fact that they had misinterpreted his message to them, but rather it is the fact that they were concerned about what they would eat. He couldn’t understand how they still had no understanding of Who He was.
How is it possible that they had the Lord Himself with them on the same boat and their worry was that they would go hungry
- Did they not see him feed the 5,000 with only 2 loaves of bread and five fish?
- Did they not remember the left overs they had from that episode?
- Did they not see him feed the 4,000 with only seven loaves of bread and two fish?
- Did they not remember the left overs they had from that episode?
- What again should he do to for them before they understand that food/bread is not an issue for Him, so long as he is with them?
Many times, we have our minds so fixed on what our current problem is and get so consumed with worry and anxiety that we forget to see that the God who is with us, is bigger than the problem.
Have you forgotten how many times over and over and over again He has delivered you from issues, and troubles, and scary situations? Can’t you remember all the times in the past you thought it was over and He showed up for you and delivered you from that situation just in time? What else should He do for you before you understand that ‘if God be for you, nothing shall be against you’.
How is it possible that every new challenge is capable of distracting you from the Only One who has the solution.
Psalm 46: 10
He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth.”
The next time you have an issue, or a challenge, or there is a circumstance that seem to overwhelm you, first be still, remember how God has come through for you in the past, then exalt Him over that situation. Glorify Him and lift Him up above whatever it is that is confronting you.
That is what Jesus wanted His disciples to do. To trust Him instead of worrying over what is not important
As you wrap up the week, determine to Trust Jesus in all things, for all things, and at all times
