2nd Chronicle 15:2
2 He went out to meet Asa and said to him, “Listen to me, Asa and all Judah and Benjamin. The Lord is with you when you are with him. If you seek him, he will be found by you, but if you forsake him, he will forsake you
When you love someone, you are eager to get to know them so you can be able to know and do the things that please them as well as refrain from doing what displeases them. You seek to know them so you and they can live together in harmony and have a happy relationship with one another. The knowing comes from the seeking
The same principle applies to our Heavenly Father. The fact that you have believed and accepted the Lord Jesus as your Lord and Saviour by Faith does not automatically mean you know Him relationally, and knowing him relationally (i.e knowing his thoughts on a matter, knowing what makes him happy, knowing his promises, knowing his standards, knowing what He can do etc) does not occur by Osmosis
Psalms 53: 2
God looks down from heaven on all mankind
to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God.
An understanding of God comes from knowledge of Him, and knowledge comes when you seek to know Him.
James 4:8a Come near to God and he will come near to you.
The Lord is willing to reveal Himself to you and open up to you but He responds to your hunger for Him. How hungry are you for Him? Just like He sought you out to save you (John 6:44), it is now your turn to seek Him out to know Him.
Jeremiah 29: 12-13
12 Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. 13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart
- Study your Bible: One way to learn of a person is to read what they have written about themselves, or what others have written about them. The bible is the Word of God. Men of old were inspired by the Holy Spirit to write the accounts you have in the bible. Study the Word of god and learn about Jesus
- Pray: In addition to studying Him through the bible, also ask the Lord in prayers about Himself. What better way to know someone than to go directly and ask them about themselves? As the Lord with sincerity of heart to reveal Himself to you, and He will do so.
The popular children Sunday School song of: ‘Read your bible, pray every day if you want to grow’ is a very valid song and still true today.
Do you want to grow in your knowledge of Christ? Are you truly seeking Him? Do you love Him?
Because even though knowledge comes when you seek, the seeking on the other hand is birthed by the love you have in your heart for Him. So the real question is: DO YOU LOVE HIM
